"One thing (there are many) that I miss in California...was the El Pollo Loco Chicken places!! I found this recipe on a copy cat site! I serve this with warm tortillas and salsa!!"

  • For marinade, mix all ingredients, except chicken, together.
  • Add chicken and marinate for 4-24 hours.
  • Remove chicken from marinade; discard marinade.
  • Cook chicken on a hot grill for about 10 minutes on each side.
  • Serve with tortillas and salsa.
  • Time does not include marinating.

  2. this might be good but it's not THE el pollo loco copycat...the real one is very simple, like salt water and yellow food coloring....i miss el pollo loco!

  4. I love El Pollo Loco chicken and is one of the things I miss most now that I live in the Midwest. I have tried this recipe and although it is VERY good, it is not the true marinade recipe for El Pollo Loco. I give it 3 stars because it does add good flavor to the chicken, but it is mislabled as El Pollo Loco.
     
  5. I made this for dinner last night. The marinade was just wonderful. It made the chicken so tender and flavorful! My husband had 2 helpings and said it was better than el pollo loco.

  1. or, You can use a 1/2 chicken, or cut up chicken. ie thighs, and legs. for this recipe.
     
  2. Wow katie - we loved this chicken! I marinated the chicken for 9 hours (subbed another brand of chilli sauce).Cooked in a cast-iron pan on the stove for 20 minutes then sliced the breasts and served with tortillas, salsa, guacamole and sour cream.This chicken packs a mean punch!!! What a winner dinner.
