Famous Applesauce

  • Combine apples, water and lemon juice in pot.
  • Bring to a boil and reduce heat to medium. Cover and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes.
  • Uncover and cook until mixture becomes thick, about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and mash apples with potato masher.
  • Stir in sugar and spices and cool. Refrigerate.
  • Yield: 3 pints (6 cups) of awesome applesauce.

Although I cut the recipe in half, I enjoyed making this applesauce & plan to make it again as part of my holiday gifts this year ~ I especially liked the combo of granny smiths & delicious apples! When it came to the mashing, however, I did only part of them, wanting a more chunky sauce! THIS IS A GREAT-TASTING SAUCE & a keeper of a recipe! <p>I was born and raised in Connecticut. I love the New England area, I think it is so pretty with the change of the seasons. <br /><br />I work for an ambulance company in their wheelchair division for non-emergency transportation. I work in the billing and customer service office. I love my job, the duties are so varied that you are always working on something different....no time for boredom. <br /><br />I am a mother to four, two sons and two daughters. <br />All have left the roost to start there own family. At last count, I was a granny to 6 boys and 2 little girls. <br /><br />I love Recipezaar and all the new daily postings. I see so much I want to try and continue to save them. I just don't have all the time to make all these recipes. I lost my husband in July 2006 and I am not the spring chicken anymore...pretty tired when I get home from work...so it's all quick, quick, quick, for me. <br /><br />I have tried a few....and have been pleased with my results and the new taste sensations. I am trying to initiate a goal of trying at least two new recipes a week.
