Famous Dave's Creamy Sweet & Sour Coleslaw

"This is one of the only times I ever use Miracle Whip (We are a Hellman's/Best Foods Family.) We just love a good coleslaw and there are a lot of different variations. This particular recipe is from Famous Dave's and one of our favorites."

  1. Lots of potential here. I normally tolerate hot, spicy food well, but this had too much white pepper for my liking. I only used 1/3 cup of sugar (Splenda actually) and next time I will start with 1/2 the amount of white pepper and horseradish and move up from there by taste. Love Famous Dave's (see my recipe for Famous Dave's Roast Chicken Breasts -- yummo!) Thanks for posting!

  2. My wife has fond memories of the slaw at Kingfish Restaurants in the Louisville, Ky, area growing up. She loves creamy slaw with Ritz or Captain's Wafers for a snack... as well as other uses as a side, etc. THIS SLAW is THE TASTE for her (and I also like it as a "creamy" slaw bearing in mind that Mike Mill's Crunchy Cole Slaw has its place as a vinegar based recipe, too!). Since I keep a hot prepared horseradish on hand, I reduced the horseradish to 1T and the white pepper to 1t so that it would not be too hot for her liking. Adjust the heat to your liking by adding the "heat" ingredients last in increments until you have the taste you prefer.

  3. I, too, rarely use Miracle Whip (except for an occassional sandwich), but it's pretty darn good in this coleslaw! I really liked the horseradish. I added some chopped Vidalia onion for some extra flavor. I maybe would slightly cut back on the sugar next time.... maybe to 1/3 cup. Thanx for sharing this coleslaw recipe!

  4. This was great. The horseradish gave it a nice kick. I served it at a cookout over the weekend with barbque and there was very lettle left.
