These were excellent bars, much enjoyed by all of us. I made as directed except for adding 1/2 cup peanut butter to the topping. I tasted it after I had made it up and I wanted a more pronounced peanut flavour, so I added a couple more tablespoonfuls. This required slightly more milk (no more sugar) to make spreadable but it was wonderful!

These are an old family favorite and I've been making them for 40 years myself! Often I will bake these in a jelly-roll pan for a thinner cookie. We use a chocolate buttercream icing instead of the melted chocolate chips. An easy way to drizzle on the peanut-butter topping is to scoop it into a zip-loc bag, snip a corner and squeeze it over the chocolate layer. We've even made "birthday cake" out of this and wrote the greetings with the p.b. drizzle. Thanks for posting, Barb - now I always know where to find this favorite.
