  1. heat oven to 425*F.
  2. in large bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt. cut in shortening until crumbly.
  3. stir in buttermilk just until moistened.
  4. turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth.
  5. roll out dough to 3/4" thickness.
  6. cut into 8 (2") biscuits, place 1" apart on cookie sheet.
  7. bake for 10 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned.
