- pastry for single-crust pie, pie
- 1⁄3 - 2⁄3 cup sugar
- 1⁄4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 dash salt
- 8 cups tart apples (8 medium, thinly sliced and peeled)

Crumb Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1⁄2 cup butter (firm stick)
directions
- Heat oven to 425. Prepare pastry.
- mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in large bowl.
- Stir in apples.
- Turn into pastry-lined pie plate.
- Make crumb topping by combining flour, brown sugar, and butter until crumbly.
- Bake 50 minutes. In last 10 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning, cover with aluminum foil.
- Serve warm.
