French Toast Waffles

  • 4 -6 slices thick-sliced bread (I use 'Texas Toast' bread)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 14 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 14 teaspoon vanilla
  • 14 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

directions

  • Preheat waffle iron.
  • Allow 2 to 3 slices of bread per serving.
  • Trim bread, if necessary, to fit your waffle iron.
  • Beat the eggs, milk, butter, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow bowl or pie plate.
  • Dip bread in egg mixture, coating both sides.
  • Cook in hot waffle iron until golden brown.
  • Watch closely so it doesn't get too brown-- it doesn't have to cook as long as waffles do.
  • Serve with desired toppings.

  1. What I like best about this recipe is the easy clean-up. I don't usually make french toast because you have to watch it so closely, and I'm never sure if the center is cooked through. I used a belgian waffle iron, whole wheat bread, egg beaters, vanilla soymilk and cinnamon. No leftovers! This is how I will make french toast from now on. Thanks for posting!
     
  2. These are great. I used a whole loaf of texas toast (16 slices) and quadrupled the recipe. I froze the rest and pop them into the toaster oven for a quick and delicious breakfast. Thanks for the great recipe.
     
  3. This is a keeper! Much quicker then French toast, none of the mess for waffles. Perfect for when company stays over. The egg mixture was a little bland for me, I like more spice, but that's personal preference. Try this one!
     
  4. Words cannot describe how good this is. Super easy, fast, minimal mess, and the whole family loves it. My new favorite recipe! I made this twice in less than a week, and I rarely make the same thing twice. Even bought a larger waffle iron specifically for this recipe so I could make multiple slices at once. None of my three boys has ever voluntarily eaten French toast, and I had to double this recipe since they ate so many slices. Used Orowheat Potato bread, a heavier textured regular sandwich bread which worked well. Am sure any bread would work nicely. Omitted the cinnamon since I planned to serve with Recipe #42038 which was delicious. Also excellent with maple syrup or honey. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  1. More than 5 stars. This is the best way to make french toast, thank you so much for posting, is a huge time saver. It cooks very very quickly, for me was probably 1 minute. For added nutrition I like to replace some of the milk with canned pumpkin.

One of my passions (after my husband, 2 sons and their families) is cooking, from simple things to gourmet. I get great pleasure out of pleasing my family and they return the favor to me. We do a lot of family things together, but probably our favorite is going camping, getting a little grubby and doing alot of trout fishing. Both of my sons, my brother and myself love to cook (even when we are camping) so everyone around us eats quite well. We have gotten into Dutch Oven cooking when we are on these trips. It's a lot of fun and everything tastes so good! But when you're out in the fresh air, even burnt hot dogs are great. My greatest hobby, the past few years, is making personalized cook books for my closest friends and family. Everyone seems to enjoy them and I add recipes to them every day. I started with a volume for myself, because I got tired of trying to remember which cook book a recipe was in....it has increased to five volumes and will soon be six. I have done the same for them, too, and enjoy every minute of it.
