This is ... interesting. I have been a fan of black licorice candy all my life, and so was expecting something different. This bread tends more toward salty than sweet, so I was surprised. I made it by hand, and used about 2 tablespoons less flour than listed. The texture of the baked loaf is fantastic, and after a slice or two, I had decided I liked the bread. It makes amazing toast. Thank you very much for broadening my horizons (we won't mention waist.)

Very nice bread with an unusual flavor. I had some aniseed I needed to use up, so when this recipe came up to accompany Fassolatha (Greek soup) I went for it. I did not get enough orange juice out of the single orange I had available so I used not-from-concentrate orange juice out of the fridge and it worked fine. The family also requested that I make the recipe again without the anise; they don't like the flavor quite as much as I do. This recipe would probably make wonderful cinnamon rolls. The leftovers sure made nice French toast!
