Fresh Peach Cobbler (Or Berry Cobbler)

"A fabulous cobbler recipe. It is quick to make and delicious every time. If peaches are not in season--it is also wonderful with frozen sliced peaches--just be sure they are thawed through before you put it together and allow more time to cook."

  1. I've tried a lot of cobbler recipes, but this is absolutely the best. I've made it with strawberries, peaches, plums, and blue berries. My favorite is half blueberry and half peaches mixed together. I've also bought the mixed frozen fruit from Walmart that have strawberries, blackberries, and blue berries and used it. All combinations were wonderful. It's good hot, cold, and especially warm with vanilla icecream.

  2. Too salty! I also could not find the temperature recommended for this recipe.

  3. I tried several different peach cobbler recipes and this recipe beat tham all! The first time I made this recipe, I did exactly as told but it was too sweet so the next time I used 1 cup sugar for the filling and about 3/4 cup sugar for the batter. This recipe is VERY good with bluberries too. Thanks!

  4. Fabulous was the right word. It's the exact word my husband used with his first taste. I used fresh peaches from my tree. I used 3/4 cup butter since the recipe called for 1/2 to 1 cup. I used a 13x9 pan since that's what I had. I don't have a processor so beat the dry ingredients at slow speed with a mixer (in case dry ingredients being very evenly dispersed was important) & a mixer to combine milk & melted butter with dry ingredients. I was a little worried about the thiness of the batter over the peaches, but witin 15 minutes (my first peek into the oven) the batter had risen and covered all. It was very easy (only time consuming peeling so many peaches but very worth it). 350 degrees and 1 hour cooking time was perfect. I looked for a recipe without cornstarch & and with plain ingredients, so picked this one and I won't go any further. My peaches are very flavorful & juicy, but winter, supermarket peaches would probably work because the cinnamon & nutmeg on top and butter in the batter probably will make up for the lack in the winter peaches. I sure don't know why you only got 2 stars for your other review Sharlene. I'm checking out your other recipes right now. Your cobbler is a definite life time keeper!!!

  5. Fruit is already very sweet naturally, so I only added 2 tablespoons of sugar to the fruit instead of 1 and a 1/4 cups. This recipe does not need so much sugar! And then another 1 cup in the batter?! I also reduced this to 1/4 cup, and it was quite sweet enough. For the sprinkle on top, I substituted coconut for the sugar. The mix of blueberries with peaches was delicious, and I'll definitely make it again.

I live in the San Francisco area and love it here. I discovered Recipezaar (then Food.com..Genius Kitchen) in 2001 and have been so happy to have my favorite recipes stored safely here. I am mother to 7 and grandmother to 7. I love to knit, smock, sew, etc., but my favorite hobby of the moment is traditional rug hooking. This is a sample of what I do.? It's called "November".? I dyed most of the wool myself. It is made from wool flannel, cut into strips a little less than 1/4" and then worked into a linen backing. This is my 3rd rug.
