1. Delicious!

Cooked onions first, then added apples after they were "carmelized".

Then added sugar.

Thanks !

 2. I was looking for something to go with the end of the bag of frozen pierogis we'd gotten from either Market Day or Schwan's and I didn't have much going in the fridge. I searched and this came up. I was cooking for two, so used 1 yellow onion (sliced) and 1 gala apple (also sliced). First I fried 2 strips of bacon and left a tablespoon of that in the skillet for the onions. I carmelized the sliced onions for about 15 minutes before I added the apples as I was worried about the apples cooking too much. I wanted them to stay slightly crispy rather than mushy. I added the apples, and about 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and covered for 5 minutes. I topped with crumbled bacon. It was the perfect accompaniment to the pierogis. It would also be great with sausage--turkey or otherwise.

I am a Yankee transplant to the low country. My mom was English, so my cooking style reflects this. My favorite cookbook was McCall's Cookbook which is no longer in print. I've been married to a gourmand for 41 years, so I get lots of practice cooking. We have three daughters that I share recipes with and seven grandchildren -- none old enough to cook yet, but I think we have some budding chefs!
