directions

  • Beat eggs in one plate, sift flour in another one, and place breadcrumbs in a third plate.
  • Take the square slices of Eidam cheese (they should be 1.5 to 2 cm or 3/4" thick) and put each slice into the flour, then immediately into the egg and then straight into the breadcrumbs.
  • Once the cheese is coated, put cooking oil into a skillet and heat it. When the oil is hot and ready, place cheese into it and fry on both sides.
  • Make sure that you don't leave the cheese in the oil for too long, as it could leak out of its coating. The frying is very quick.
  • Serve with boiled potatoes and tartar sauce.

  1. this reminds me of my childhood...i grew up in Slovakia and my mom used to make it for us when we were kids....i love it and make it for my family now.

  2. OK...I'm giving this 4 stars because while it wasn't bad--it was almost too rich to be a "main dish", but didn't hold temperature enough to really be a "side". Anyway, my 2 y/o ate it right up, and while my hubby and I agreed that it was OK, we probably won't be making this exact recipe again--I'd probably try to serve it "over" something??? Note: The only change I made was to use seasoned bread crumbs--because I had them on hand.

  4. I love fried cheese!! I used to have it as a student almost every day :) Very easy to make and so yummy! I have tried to make it with the (otherwise very good) Australian tasty cheese but it doesn't work as well as eidam. Thanks for posting one of my favourites! :)

  5. This is a wonderful recipe. Served with the tarter sauce and the Czech Krokety (Croquettes) and a salad it is divine!

I live in Europe and I'm a student of Anglo-American Studies. I love music, movies, quizzes and surveys on the internet, psychology, philosophy, nature and many other wonderful things. I have two kitties and a dog (German Shepherd) and I really adore animals. I'm also a great food enthusiast and I will most likely enjoy whatever you cook for me. I think my fiancé is the best cook, however, as well as my parents obviously haha. My fiancé is American and his cooking is absolutely amazing. As for me, I can cook a few meals but nothing spectacular. :)
