Fried Worm Sandwiches

"So much fun for Halloween. The kids love them, and it actually is a tasty way to enjoy a hotdog because the strips brown on all sides. Toasting buns is optional, but we like them that way."

directions

  • Slice hotdogs in half lengthwise, then each half into thirds lengthwise to make 6 strips from each hotdog. Make a few shallow cuts along the length of each strip on the "skin" side. This will help them curl into worms as they cook.
  • Open hotdog buns and thinly spread butter on the cut sides of buns.
  • Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Toast buns, cut side down in skillet til browned and toasty. You may need to do this in batches. Remove buns from skillet and keep warm.
  • Place hotdog strips in same hot skillet. Toss and cook til curly, hot, and browned to your family's liking. Serve strips on toasted buns and top with desired condiments.

  1. Made with the g'babes and after 2 days, I've enough entertainment already...and maybe a reason to drink.

  2. What a great idea!!! The kids had so much fun and the blood/ketchup idea was perfect! Thank you, kitchenslave03, for a great recipe! Made for the Think Pink Tag Game In Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, October 2008.

  3. you can add "blood" aka ketchup to gross them out further

  5. Hey these aren't just for kids they are for the young at heart too! I used Smokies and didn't cut the strips thin enough so my worms didn't turn - this did not take away from the flavor - I spread a mixture of Old Imperial cheddar & low fat cream cheese on the top half of the bun, BBQ sauce on the bottom and raw sweet onion & chopped tomato over the worms - Served with oven fries - I'm sorry the picture doesn't do it justice but I will make this again and improve on creating the worms Thanks Kitchenslave03 for an enjoyable Saturday night dinner

I am a former retail management slave who is now a stay at home mom who absolutely loves her job. I have an eight year old, a two year old and a nine month old who all bring their own kind of joy to my life. My favorite thing in the world is to cook. We have a real, from scratch family dinner almost every night. Please don't be offended if I somewhat change a recipe in my review. I look at recipes sort of as guidelines, and alter them according to inspiration. I've received alot of helpful advice from reviews, that's why I share what I've done differently. With my little ones I'm pretty busy, but I LOVE this site and plan on being even more active as they get older.
