  • mix milk, flour, and salt in sauce pan cook until thick, set into refrigerator to cool.
  • then cream sugar and shortening add vanilla beat at hi speed until light and fluffy.
  • stores in ref well when ready to use beat it again till fluffy.

  1. This is one of my favorite frostings. I always use butter instead of shortening. It will not be gritty if you beat it enough. It takes awhile.
     
  2. I baked the eggless, milkless, butterless spice cake (77442) and wanted a frosting that wasn't too sweet. This recipe has potential, but did not turn out well. It had a good taste, but the texture was horrible. It was gritty and crunchy, so I had to throw it out and make another frosting. If the sugar was cooked with the flour and milk I think it would be better. I might try it again that way another day when I have more time.
     
  3. Like Cocoa, I also had no confectioner's, and I had already baked the cake, so this came in very handy! However, for a 9x13 cake, I doubled the recipe. Good Job, Debra!
     
  4. I made this frosting with cake #16560. I had no confectioners sugar in the house - this was the only frosting I could make with the ingredients I had on hand - this tasted really good. Thanks!
