“I came up with this inexpensive recipe after several attempts to get rid of these pesky critters. They breed very quickly and it's best to get a handle on them ASAP. This recipe is a combination of several recipes and I have found this to be the best! Let me know what you think. We had a bucket of Margarita Mix that unleashed quite a few of these in our house when we opened it.”
1 Trap

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Boil water in the microwave and add sugar. Stir until dissolved. Add vinegar and dishwashing liquid. Stir gently.
  2. Whenever we bring home fruit or fresh produce, I make a trap and place it right next to it.
  3. As they start to evaporate, I add a bit of water and a drop of dishwashing liquid to each trap once a week or so. I replace each trap every two weeks with a fresh one during peak fruit season.
  4. FYI:
  5. I have found placing this solution in a see through bright colored bowl (such as the disposable children's travel bowls) works best. I also place it on a small plate to catch any spills, as this gets sticky. Fruit flies are also attracted to light -- so placing in your window sill is a good choice. In addition to the obvious fruit they are also attracted to trash, dirty dishes, and diapers.
