Fudge Oatmeal Drop Cookies

"This recipe is near and dear to my heart. It comes from an old & beloved church cookbook from the 1970s and the cookbook was given to me by my Mom. This recipe is one of the only ones for this type of drop cookie that I've found that didn't incorporate peanut butter. I have nothing against peanut butter, but I don't like it mixed with chocolate."

directions

  • Combine sugar, evaporated milk, butter & cocoa in a large pot. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  • Once a rolling boil has been reached, cook for 1-1/2 minutes. Please note that if it's not a full rolling boil, your cookies may not set up. This happened to me several times before I understood what a rolling boil was. http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-a-rolling-boil.htm.
  • Take off the heat and add oats, nuts & vanilla.
  • Mix well and spoon out onto wax paper or parchment paper.
  • Once cookies have cooled they will have set and hardened.
