  1. Heat oven to 350*; grease and flour 2 9inch cake pans.
  2. In sm saucepan, melt butter and chocolate, stirring, over low heat.
  3. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt in lg mixer bowl.
  4. Add melted chocolate, buttermilk and eggs.
  5. Beat on low to combine; beat on high until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  6. Pour into cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes, or until cakes test done.
  8. Cool in pan 5 minutes; invert onto wire rack.
  9. Frosting: Bring cream JUST to a boil.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips.
  11. Stir until frosting is smooth and starts to thicken.
  12. Place 1/3 cup on bottom layer.
  13. Top with second layer; frost top and sides.
