Garlic-Cheese Monkey Bread

  • Add the breadmaker ingredients to the breadmaker in the order specified.
  • Put on dough setting and run until dough cycle is complete.
  • Oil a bread pan or, if preferred, do a single layer in an oiled pizza pan.
  • Mix 1/2 c parmesan, 2 tsp oregano, 2 tsp garlic powder.
  • Split the bread dough into two portions.
  • Make the first portion into 1" balls, dipping in the parmesan mixture and placing in the pan.
  • Sprinkle with 1/4 c grated cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat with the remaining dough, parmesan mixture and cheddar.
  • Top with any leftover parmesan.
  • Let rise for 20 minutes or so until well raised (doubled).
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Bake at 350F for 20-25 minutes until done.

Yields a very nice dough that I could also see using for breadsticks or savoury rolls. 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to coat the dough balls with some olive oil in order to get the topping to adhere. A+ for flavor & ease of preparation. I am going to try fresh garlic in the monkey topping next time and mozarella instead of cheddar. Your recipe has given me some great ideas for creative bread! Thanks.
     
  2. This monkey bread was a nice change of pace from the same old garlic bread. I did like it and everyone at the dinner party liked it but we all felt like something was missing. Not sure what... maybe the butter taste that generally goes along with garlic-cheese bread. Other than being a little dry it was good.
