Gilroy Garlic Festival Wowchos

"Wowchos are similar to nachos, but with lots of garlic. This recipe won first place at the ''83 Garlic Festival , an annual event held in Gilroy, California, garlic capital of the world. The garlic mellows out while baking, so it tastes much better than it sounds. Garlic affectionados usually add even more garlic to the recipe."

  1. there's some plagiarism going on here. the recipe for wowchos was created by me for the 1983 gilroy garlic festival. you can check that by looking at the festival book that they printed at the time, with my signature, leonard brill, of san francisco. I'M STILL HERE.

  2. We liked this nacho recipe and did not alter the directions or ingredients. Each bite that had a roasted garlic was fantastic. We really loved it. The rest of the nacho toppings were good but not great; DH said he felt you could take your favorite nacho recipe as a base and add the two heads of roasted garlic to it and have an even better recipe. I would not have thought to add roasted garlic to nachos and I definitely will keep this method in mind for next time. Thanks! Made for Sun and Spice 2013

I live in a wooded hillside area of Los Angeles where it feels like being out in the country. I grew up in Rhode Island, and came to LA after graduating from URI. I recently retired from my job as an environmental specialist. So now I have time to collect internet recipes. My hobbies & interests are aquatics, shell collecting, my cats, feeding stray cats, home improvement projects and cooking. I love to travel and, years ago, lived in Mexico for several months. My favorite cookbooks are the ones written by Diana Kennedy; they are all great; and I have them all, some signed by her when I was enrolled in her cooking classes. I have a lot of cookbooks; some of my other fave authors and their books are: Madhur Jaffrey (especially World Vegetarian, World of East Vegetarian Cooking and A Taste of the Far East), Faye Levy, Martha Rose Shulman (especially Mediterranean Light, Provencal Light and Mexican Light) and Paula Wolfert.
