Gluhwein

"This recipe came from my husband's best friend who is a U.S. Marine. He had this drink in Germany. It is served in Germany outside in the winter and it really warms you up! Thanks Mike! This works best with a full bodied red wine."

  1. I live in South Africa - we have just had a very cold snap & made this recipe last night........ FABULOUS.. enjoyed with freinds over a card game that ran into the early hours thanks to Gluwein... I think we had about 12 batches between 6 of us

  2. I made a double quantity of this recipe yesterday evening in my slow cooker. I made sure the wine was heated before adding the cheesecloth goodies. I did add about 25% more sugar. It was so good that the lads did a another red wine run so I could make more. I served them in normal white wine glasses. So we consumed two double quantities last night. And we all felt great today. Such a beautiful winter drink. This recipe will remain in the cockles of our hearts forever.

  3. We have enjoyed this many times in the winter. It is the perfect winter warmer for adults, especially if you've just come in from some fun in the snow. Lovely to serve at Christmas parties as well.

I live in Maine with my husband, son and daughter. I LOVE cookbooks. My fav lately has been the King Arthur Flour Companion but, I especially love John Thorne's "Outlaw Cook" and Bill Neal's "Biscuits, Spoonbread and Sweetpotatoe Pie". I love books on Indian and Thai food and books about the history of food. My passion is ice-hockey, eh?!
