Directions

  1. Sift together salt and flour.
  2. Make a paste of of coloring and cocoa.
  3. Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs and then add paste.
  4. Add buttermilk and flour alternately.
  5. Blend baking soda and vinegar in cup until it foams.
  6. Add to the vanilla batter.
  7. Bake in 3 layer pans, greased and floured.
  8. Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes.
  9. Frost with Big Red Cake Frosting!
