  • To make dumplings:.
  • Put flour and butter in food processor. Blend until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  • Add milk, salt and egg and process until dough is formed.
  • Transfer dough to board and knead lightly.
  • Shape into 12 balls.
  • To make the syrup:.
  • Put all syrup ingredients into a large saucepan and bring to the boil.
  • Stir until sugar dissolves.
  • Put the dough balls into the syrup saucepan in a single layer and cook over medium heat for 15 minutes.
  • If necessary add water.
  • To serve put the sumplings into bowls and spoon remaining syrup over.
