  1. What a delicious recipe!! I added the optional mushrooms and waterchestnuts, but left out the almonds because my kids won't eat those. Very well seasoned and a great way to dress up green beans. Thanks for sharing this.

  2. These green beans are so good! I cooked the beans just until they were crisp-tender. Then I spooned off some of the bacon fat before finishing the dish. I added everything except the pimentos (didn't have any). We liked the crisp almonds and water chestnuts with the beans. Very nice side dish! Thanks JoAnn!

  3. I did not add the jar of pimentos because I didn't have them in the house. I think that the beans tasted pretty good without them. It had a crispy, tasty difference. A sided dish that I will try again.

  4. Wow! This is a great recipe! I just made it for Christmas dinner and everyone loved it. I did leave out the pimiento and mushrooms as they are not to our taste. I will definitely make this dish again.

  5. Used the mushrooms and leaving out the pimentos was the only change I made - my gang loved this with our New Year's Ham dinner. It is a keeper - thanks !

Tweaks

  1. Excellent. I added mushrooms and used pancetta instead of bacon.

  2. Wow! I have never had such a great green bean dish. I didn't have pimentos, but I did have roasted red peppers, and the flavor was awesome! Also, I used shallots in place of the onion & garlic. I didn't use mushrooms, almonds or water chestnuts since I didn't have any, but the dish is awesome anyway. And actually I think I prefer fewer ingredients. Thanks for such a great recipe.

Love to read. I collect books and have quite a collection but am always adding more. I have also discovered audio books and find that I am able to get through more books by listening to them. Have recently started knitting and I really enjoy it even if it is quite a challenge at times. Always searching for a great recipe in any food category. As might be expected I never find "The One" but find many delicious ones along the way. One of our favorite restaurants is Jensen's Supper Club located in Eagan, MN.
