directions

  • In a large saucepan, stir together the half-and-half, the milk, the orange juice, the zest, and a pinch of salt and bring the mixture just to a boil over moderate heat.
  • In a small heatproof bowl, whisk together the chopped chocolate and about 2/3 cup of the hot milk mixture until the mixture is smooth and whisk the chocolate mixture into the remaining milk mixture.
  • Simmer the hot chocolate, whisking, for 2 minutes, discard the zest, and stir in the Grand Marnier.
  • (For frothy hot chocolate, in a blender blend the hot chocolate in batches.) Divide the hot chocolate among heated mugs and garnish each drink with some of the whipped cream and grated chocolate.

  1. This was sooo good. I made this last weekend as an after-dinner drink, instead of a dessert and coffee. Should mention that I did add Grand Marnier "to taste"

  2. Wish there were more than 5 stars...this was heavenly! Rich, slightly thick and a perfect blend of chocolate and orange. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to some of this wonderful hot chocolate

  3. Yummy, hot chocolate, Bev! The oranage juice adds another flavor level. Rich, decadent and delish! Made for Snow Queen Chalet.

  4. This is wonderful Bev. I love the combination of orange, dark chocolate and grand marnier. Wow, this was decadent, rich, creamy, thick and oh so flavourful. I finished my hot choclate off with whipped cream, sprinkled chocolate and grand marnier over top. This is a treat that I will be making often, with and without the grand marnier. Thanks so much for sharing your recipe Bev.

  5. Oh Wow! This is better than any liquor coffee I have EVER had. Thanks so much for sharing :)
