  1. add salt, butter, and confectioners' sugar to a bowl and mix with electric mixer.
  2. in a separate bowl mix egg and almond extract, add to the mixture.
  3. add flour to the mix and continue to mix till its incorporated
  4. divide the dough in 1/2 and place in 2 separate bowls.
  5. add desired food colors to the balls of dough.
  6. roll the dough into ropes, twist together, cut to desired lengths and form into candy cane shapes and bake.
