Grandma Katie's Apple Cake

"My Grandma Katie used to make this cake all the time for her kids and then us - the grandkids! It is delicious! I am not a fan of walnuts so I usually leave them out or use a lesser quantity. I also like to add raisins and use almond extract (my fave) instead of vanilla extract. It is definitely an easy recipe to make and the little effort goes a long way in taste!"

  1. I just altered the recipe and decreased the oil to 1 cup, I did use the walnuts instead and the raisins. The apple I tended to slice thin rather than slice. But other than that I stayed true to the recipe and it tasted great. The powdered sugar made a nice crusty coating on top. Yummm!.

  2. This is a very easy and moist cake. Everyone enjoyed the cake, but next time I will be adding a touch of cinnamon to it to spice it up just a tad. But you are sooooo right about the almond extract it certainly makes this cake. Thank you Mom for sharing this with us, and Thank you Grandma Katie for sharing it with her.

  5. This is a wonderful and versatile recipe. I used peach and apple in mine and served with cream and recipe #370422 - very yummy indeed. I used slivered almond instead of walnuts and just loved how easy it was - a big thank you to Grandma Katie from me .

  2. This cake is wonderful. I cut the recipe in half and made it in a 9 inch round pan. I sprinkled it with white sugar, not powdered and it is so moist and yummy. I used raisins instead of walnuts. Mmmmm... I love raisins. I will be making this again. Thanks!
