Grandmaman's Baked Apples

"This is one of DH's mother's recipes. I've added cinnamon to the recipe after 2 reviewers suggested it."

  1. This is not 4 stars in my opinion but not really 5 either. I think it is meant to be eaten warm? That's how DD (toddler) well she just kind of picked and I ate it. It tasted eggy. Maybe that's how it tastes or my egg is a bit old? Also mine was a lot more liquidy than the photos but we didn't let it get cold. I made ours gluten free using white rice flour and half the amount of sweet rice flour, a starch. I used sea salt, fuji apples plus the optional nuts for which I chose almost 1/4 cup chopped walnuts and I did add the cinnamon I. I love cinnamon so I added some to the mixture and on top. 2. My family just tried this last night, it went over well. I served it with some chocolate mint ice cream and whipped cream on top of the apples. I also added some cinnamon into the mixture that I mixed the apples in. Everyone gobbled it up! Thanks for sharing this recipe, it is sooo good!

  3. When I mixed up the first ingredients the dough was real doughy and hard to mix. I did add a little over 1/2 c. walnuts. After I added the apples in, it softened up, and I spooned the mix it in a glass 3"tallx6"widex9"long casserole. I cooked as directed and it was nowhere near done. Soupy in the middle. I turned it down to 250 and cooked it for 15 more mins. and it didn't seem to be doing too much but browning on the top, so I mixed up all the ingredients so it wouldn't burn on top, and then upped the temperature to 350 and cooked for an additional 15 mins. It appeared to be done, so I took it out of the oven. I served it with vanilla ice cream. Most of the flavor was from the nuts and ice cream. Seemed like something was missing. When I make this again, and I will be making it again, I will add some cinnamon or cardamon to give it a little boost in flavor. Thanks for sharing Dreamer! Linda Made for Photo Swap Contest

  4. I didn't have problem mixing the dough and apples. After 22 minutes, it was done. Cause it was very dark golden. There is something missing in it. Probably cinnamon would add more taste. Usually I love desserts made with apples but this one not really. My BF liked it so I give it 3 stars. Sorry about that Dreamer. I wish it would have been a better success. Made for Market Tag.
