“I bought a bag of granola at the farmer's market and loved it. Granola is awesome! Unfortunately there and in the store, it was about $8-12 for a small bag. I figured I could make my own, and make it better. Here's what I've come up with after 3 batches. Also, this recipe uses no additional oil. The ingredients are generic on purpose, see the directions below.”

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Preheat oven to 275°F.
  2. You can use whatever ingredients you have on hand or want to use. Tailor it to your own preferences!
  3. Liquid sugars can be: honey, maple syrup, molasses, corn syrup.
  4. Dry sugars can be: brown sugar, cane sugar, malted barley flour (aka Dry Malt Extract).
  5. Nuts can be slivered almonds, chopped walnuts, sunflower seeds, etc.
  6. Fruits can be raisins, craisins, or other dried fruit.
  7. Quantities are totals. Use a variety to make up that total. For example, I usually use 1 cup of walnuts, 1/2 cup of slivered almonds, and 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds to achieve the 2 cups of nuts. I use honey and maple syrup to make up the liquid sugars, etc --.
  8. In a large bowl add 1/2 cup of water to the dry sugars, mix, and heat in the microwave until dissolved.
  9. When dissolved, add the liquid sugars and mix just to combine.
  10. Add the oats, nuts, and seeds to the bowl.
  11. Mix thoroughly (I prefer using my hands).
  12. Spread onto two parchment lined baking sheets.
  13. Bake for 30-35 minutes, swap and rotate sheets, and bake for 30-35 more minutes. (Total time will depend on your oven. Mine's gas and I've tried 60 to 80 minutes and find 70 is a good balance. Electric may be less).
  14. Allow to cool, break up into desired chunks and mix with the fruit and candy (I like mini dark chocolate chips).
  15. Keep as you like. I put this into 5-6 large ziptop bags and store in the fridge. Each Monday, I bring a bag to work for the week.
