ingredients
- 1 cup yoghurt
- 1⁄2 cucumber, julienned
- 1⁄2 teaspoon mint
- 1⁄2 teaspoon basil
- 1⁄4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄2 lb ground beef
- 1⁄2 yellow onion, diced
- 1 -2 garlic clove, diced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 ounces feta cheese, cubed
- salt
- pepper
- 1⁄2 teaspoon mint
- 1 teaspoon basil
directions
- Combine the yoghurt, cucumber, 1/2tsp mint, 1/2tsp basil and 1/4tsp garlic powder. Mix well, and refrigerate. The longer you let this sit, the more well developed the flavors will be. Half an hour is alright, 1 - 2 hours is better. If you can, overnight is even better still.
- Heat oil in a medium skillet.
- Add onions and garlic and saute until translucent.
- Add the beef, mint, basil, salt and pepper, and brown the meat.
- Once the meat is completely browned, add the feta cheese and pine nuts. Stir until the cheese has melted enough to coat the beef, leaving a few large chunks of cheese.
- Taste; add more of the spices if needed.
- Remove yoghurt sauce from the fridge and salt to taste. Serve on the side.

I grew up watching my mom cook. Now, my mom is one of those people who can't actually follow a recipe - she always ALWAYS modifies things to her own tastes, and usually makes them better.
Both my brother and I have developed a love of food through my mom. While I am just a chef-for-fun, my brother is actually studying to get his culinary arts degree! I'm proud to say I've taught him a thing or two about cooking along the way... and I'm even more proud that now he's turned around and started teaching me things.
