“Panch phoran is an Indian (Bengali) spice/seed mix. Purcahse it in an Indian spice shop or use Panch Phoran. Use freshest green beans you can find. Great served with Dal or curries.”

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. Fill large pot with enough water to cover the beans and bring to a boil. Add beans and 1/4 tsp salt; boil 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the panch phoran; stir until it begins to pop, about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the onion and saute until it begins to brown, about 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook another 2 minutes. Add the cayenne and turmeric and stir.
  4. Add drained green beans and lemon juice, stir and cook until beans are heated through, about 2 minutes. Stir in black pepper and salt to taste.
  5. Put into serving bowl and garnish with toasted almonds.
