directions

  • Place beans in a steamer with boiling water. Steam until they turn very bright green, but are still crunchy, about 5 minutes. Rinse in steamer basket under cold running water. Drain.
  • Heat oil in a wide, shallow saucepan. Add onion and garlic; saute until softened, about 5 minutes. Add cinnamon, cumin, black pepper and cayenne; saute 1 minute. Add tomatoes and 1/2 teaspoons salt. Bring to boiling, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, 8-10 minutes or until mixture has a thick, jam-like consistency.
  • Stir in honey. Add beans, lower heat. Cook, covered, at a slow simmer, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender, about 15 minutes. Stir in lemon juice. Season with remaining salt, if needed.

  1. These beans were a surprise for us. Loved the seasonings and the ease of making it. Thanks for sharing, Nancy. Made for CQ4.

  2. We enjoyed the sweetness and unusual spice combination of these beans. The subtle heat from the cayenne pepper was a nice surprise, too. Quick and easy to make, I used fresh green beans from my garden. **Made for 2017 Culinary Quest - Turkey for the Smok'in Chefs**

  3. These beans were a delicious addition to our dinner last night. I scaled the recipe back for 2 of us and the only other change I made was not to steam the beans first. They were French Green beans and quite thin it worked out perfectly just adding them to the sauce for the 15 minutes. We will be having these beans again! Made for CQ4
