Green Tea and Berry Slushie

"Woman's Day, June 2006. A super healthy drink, packed with lots of vitamins! Although not a very sweet drink, this slushie has just the right amount of a subtle hint of green tea. I brew the tea the night before then chill until the next morning. Use any combination of berries-raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, etc."

  • *NOTE: I used three tea bags of Traditional Medicinals brand Organic Green Tea with Ginger. The original recipe specified six tea bags and three full tablespoons of honey. I toned it down a little.
  • Brew the tea and let steep for 10 minutes; covered. Remove tea bags, allow tea to cool down then refrigerate.
  • Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

  1. Wonderful, yummy healthy and fresh tasting drink. I used a good brand of fully frozen berries as I didn't realise they were meant to be partially thawed. Next time I would partially thaw as to not have such a freezing drink but my banana was also from the fridge. It wasn't a big deal. I did not steep the green tea as long as I didn't see that until after. I would steep it longer than 3 minutes next time but maybe not the full 10. I thought any kind of tea is not good for us if we steep it too long? My organic green tea package said to steep 2-3 minutes in boiled water that had sat for 1-2 minutes. I used unpasteurised local honey in a bit bigger amount just as a preference. I will make this again. Made for Ramadan Tag 2010.

  2. When making this, I used the frozen berries right out of the freezer (not partially thawed) & included 1 whole banana, but those were the only changes I made, & we had A VERY NICE TASTING BREAKFAST DRINK! Definitely on my list to make again ~ Thanks for sharing the recipe! [Made & reviewed as a recipenap in Vegetarian/Vegan Recipe Swap 19]
