- Mix the dates, nuts, raisins and sugar together in a large bowl.
- Meanwhile, boil 1 cup of water and add 1 teaspoons of baking soda to the boiled water.
- Now add this boiled water with the baking soda to the nut mixture and let it sit and cool down in the bowl to room temperature.
- Once the nut mixture is at room temperature, add the beaten egg to it and mix well.
- Now add the flour and mix thoroughly. The batter will be a brownish color.
- Grease baking pan with the oil lightly.
- If you want, you can line the bottom of the pan with waxed paper.
- Pour the batter in the pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 hour.

So easy and so good. My mom loved the date nut bread in a can. She would have flipped over this recipe. I made the bread in my very large Pyrex measuring cup, boiling the water in the cup in the microwave and adding the ingredients to the cup. One 'bowl' quick bread. Baked up beautifully with no problem releasing from pan that was sprayed with Baker's Joy. Dense and nutty and sweet from the dates and raisins. My new Number One quick bread recipe. Thanks, Oolala!

After all these years I'm trying to get all my index cards and clippings, that still sound interesting to me, posted here so that I can find them and eventually make them! <br /> <br />I've posted some of my Mom's recipes. I regret not having paid more attention to my Grandmothers' cooking. They made some dishes that I miss and there were/are no recipes for them. <br /> <br />I have a wonderful DH and 2 wonderful sons. They are thrilled that I found this site since they directly benefit from it! Before finding 'Zaar, I was less of a cook and more of a recipe collector but now I try many more things and we're having more fun in the kitchen (at least I am)! <br /> <br />Thanks for all your ratings, comments and help in the forums AND for posting so many great recipes. You've enhanced my cooking skills and expanded my horizons!
