“I had a sandwich at a restaurant called Hemingway's in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh and I wanted to try a hand at one. This is not a copycat of their recipe as it was too long ago for me to exactly remember what was on it. I made this based on the concept and doing some searching on the 'net. I used a Bosc pear but I think a Bartlett may be sweeter.”

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 4 slices thick bread
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked
  • 1 pear, thinly sliced (Bartlett or Bosc)
  • 2 -3 slices sharp cheddar cheese, sliced (may use white cheddar)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, for spreading

Directions

  1. Butter one side of each piece of bread.
  2. Spray a pan with cooking spray; heat pan.
  3. Place two pieces of the bread in the pan, butter side down, and top with cheese (1 to 1.5 slices), two slices of cooked bacon, and a few pear slices.
  4. Grill over medium heat until bread is nicely browned and flip. Continue to grill until other side is browned and cheese is melted.
  5. Cut each sandwich diagonally for that classic grilled cheese look and serve while hot and toasty.
