"These are terrific! Even my sauerkraut hating DH liked these! I like to use my George Foreman Grill for these. Serve with potato salad and crispy dill pickles."

  1. These are our favorite sandwich. I grill on the George Foreman, and they only take a minute or two. I always use butter instead of the Pam on the outside of the bread. One time I made the mistake of rinsing the sauerkraut....rinsed all the wonderful flavor right down the sink! This is a fast, easy, & very delicious sandwich.

  3. A great way to use leftover corned beef! I grill/press these in the panini maker.

  5. I love this recipe. I had to improvise some I used wheat bread instead of rye and I forgot to get swiss cheese and used cheddar instead but it still came out to make a wonderful sandwich.

Tweaks

  1. One of my very favorite restaurants which is no longer in business, put sour cream on their Reubens. I tried it with this recipe and was back in heaven. Sounds weird, tastes fabulous!!

  2. Best using real butter (minimal amount) and kimmel (caraway seed) bread instead of rye. Also very good with pumpernickel or marbled rye. Make certain to drain sauerkraut well or sandwich will be mushy. A frypan works as well or better than a sandwich grill.
