ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of alfalfa sprout seeds
- 1 quart mason jar
directions
- Add 2 tablespoons of seed to a mason jar with strainer lid. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. First day, fill half way with water overnight to soak. Set out of direct sunlight and at room temperature, 70 degrees is optimal. The kitchen counter is fine. Rinse and drain twice a day. At the end of day 5 or the start of day 6 your sprouts will be ready to eat. Refrigerate your sprouts 8-12 hours after the final rinse and drain. Enjoy your sprouts in salads, sandwiches, or as a topping to any dish.

Thank you for posting something about sprouting. In the summer, I would not recommend rinsing the seeds less than four times throughout the day as they easily sour in warm weather. In the winter, thrice daily will work. The moisture that is left behind from the rinse is what helps them to grow. In addition, I would cover the jars with cheesecloth and a rubber band to keep insects out and make it easier to strain the water and leave the seeds. You'll find that rinsing them three or four times daily makes the sprouts ready earlier.
