"I found this recipe about 20 years ago in a magazine (don't remember which one though). My whole family loves it and our personal preference is to use cream of mushroom. Enjoy!"

  1. Great work, Dreamgoddess! Solid, savory comfort food. I added a dollop of red wine, and left out the sugar, and doubled up on the onions. My dad used to make a dish very similar to this, and that is how I learned that a man can cook without being a sissy.

  2. This was very good. I made the tomato option and will try the mushroom next time. The sauce was a bit sweet for me, I will reduce the sugar next time if I made the tomato sauce type again. Very enjoyable and simple recipe.

  3. I used the mushroom soup in this recipe. My husband enjoyed it so much that I have already made it twice! Now we have a new way to use up the frozen hamburger patties that I have in the freezer... we liked this better than hamburgers!

  4. This was great. So easy to prepare, basic ingredients. This will become an "old faithful" I'm sure! I used tomatoe sauce and cut brown sugar in half. This is another that's perfect for my "hate to cook" friends because it's so simple. Thanks for posting another great recipe Dreamgoddess!!!

  5. I do not give 5 stars very often, but this was totally fabulous! I used Grey Poupon whole grain mustard, as we prefer it. I used the chopped dehydrated onion, as hublet is not a big fan of onion. I also used the Cream of Mushroom soup. The gravy was fabulous! I broiled the lean beef patties on a rack to reduce the fat content further. I did add finely minced garlic to the patties. I added the sauce, covered the electric skillet and allowed it to simmer until done. My husband loved it and I will be making this recipe again.

Tweaks

  1. Perfect comfort food! We enjoyed these very much. I used golden mushroom soup instead of the tomato sauce and I served with mashed potatoes for a perfect meal. Thanks for posting! Made for PAC Fall 2008.
