- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1⁄4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup Cheerios toasted oat cereal (crushed)
- 1⁄2 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1⁄4 teaspoon allspice
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 cup oats
- 1⁄4 cup honey
- 1⁄2 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1⁄2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 egg
directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease an 8x8 baking pan.
- Combine all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
- Combine all wet ingredients in another bowl.
- Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

This was okay, not necessarily what I would consider a traditional brownie, more like a cocoa bar cookie. Flavour was pretty good, but they didn't have that gooey brownie texture. One positive, they weren't super-sweet like some other low-fat brownie recipes. Bottom line: decent low-fat treat, but definitely not a substitute for the "real thing".
