Hearty Lentil Stew

"I have never eaten lentils much less cooked them. My MIL had a package in the pantry though she had never eaten any either. So today I decided to give them a try. The following is what I came up with and we really, REALLY like them a lot! This is the first recipe I have submitted so PLEASE be gentle."

  • Wash lentils.
  • In a large pot, put together the water, ham, sausage, and lentils.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Turn heat down to medium and cook for 30 minutes or until tender.
  • Remove sausage and cut into bite size pieces.
  • Return sausage to the pot.
  • Add potatoes, onion, garlic, sweet pepper and bayleaf.
  • Continue cooking for another 30 minutes.
  • Remove bayleaf and serve hot.
  • *Note* I haven't tried this with rice yet but I imagine it will be delicious served on top of rice.

<img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/PACsticker-Adopted.jpg"> I'm a Southern Gal ... Georgia born and raised. I have 3 wonderful grown children and 4 totally delightful g-babes (they call me Ya-ya). I love to cook and try new dishes. I am mostly a So. Ga. country cook hough I refuse to deep fry anything. Instead, I oven fry a good bit and mostly I bake. I just bought myself a bread machine (found it brand new ... never been opened ... at a Goodwill store for only $24.00 !!! Good deal! The recipes in the booklet were awful so I searched for more and found, not only a great roll recipe, but I also discovered the wonderful world of RecipeZaar! I do believe I am really going to like this place!
