  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Melt butter in saucepan, stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Bring to a boil, reduce temperature and simmer.
  • Peel, core and slice apples into 1/4" thick slices.
  • Toss apples in sauce. Reserve 2T of sauce to pour over pie.
  • Place bottom crust in your pie pan. Fill with apples, they will mound up.
  • Take other pie pastry and slice into 1" strips (this will be used to create a lattice top for pie).
  • Cover apples with a lattice pattern using pastry you sliced into strips.
  • Once pie is covered in lattice, take remaining 2 T of sauce and pour over pie.
  • If you have a course sugar you can sprinkle that on top as well.
  • Bake 15 minutes in preheated (425F degree oven). REDUCE HEAT to 350 and continue baking for 35-45 minutes, until apples are soft.
