  • Mix the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, raisins and nuts in a bowl. Cream 2 cups sugar, margarine and eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in the molasses. Add the flour mixture and mix well. Chill, covered, for 2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 325*F.
  • Shape the dough into fingersize pieces. Roll in sugar. Arrange on greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 7 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

  1. I think this may have been the first time I've made cookies EVER, so bearing that in mind.... Growing up, my best friend's mother used to make these - so I had an end product in mind. I thought the mixture was a bit dry for molding into cigars and I ended up refrigerating it overnight (due to laziness/rather than two hours). I used dried cranberries and walnuts and chopped them up too small, texture-wise. But.....everyone LOVED my cookies. I will definitely make them again.
