  • Heat oven to 350°F Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  • Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes.
  • Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.
  • Frost with "PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING.
  • 10 to 12 servings.

  1. Thanks for posting this. I wanted to add it to my cookbook and wasn't looking forward to all the typing. ;- ) Plus, you posted it exactly as it's written on the can. Others have made changes to the directions. There is one discrepency, though. The ingredients list "butter", but the directions refer to "oil". My Hershey's cake recipe calls for oil.<br/><br/>This is the Best Chocolate Cake Ever! Moist, dense, and great chocolate flavor. I originally saw this in a magazine ad more than 20 years ago as "Deep, Dark Chocolate Cake (that even your mother-in-law will like)" Who could argue with that? I tried it and I haven't bought a cake mix since. No creaming butter and sugar, no beating egg whites, mixes up in one bowl in less than ten minutes and everyone raves about it. I love this cake!
