- 1 bag 7 bean mix, rinsed and soaked over night or 1 bag 15 bean mix
- 7 cups water
- 1 ham bone
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 hot chili peppers or 1 dried chili
- 2 teaspoons mixed herbs
- 1⁄2 cup dried parsley
- 1⁄4 cup summer savory
- 1⁄4 cup cumin seed
- 2 teaspoons fennel seeds
- 2 teaspoons caraway seeds
- 2 teaspoons dill seeds
- 2 teaspoons cracked coriander seeds
- 2 teaspoons sweet basil
- 2 teaspoons dried chervil
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon lemon thyme
- 1 teaspoon sage
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 1 teaspoon lavender
- 1 teaspoon sweet marjoram
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- salt and pepper
- 1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 carrot, sliced
- 1 stalk celery, sliced with leaves
- 2 medium potatoes, diced
- 4 ounces green beans, trimmed and chopped
- 1 -3 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 drops honey
- minced fresh green herbs
directions
- Boil the drained, soaked beans with the water, bone, bay leaf and chili in a large pot.
- Reduce to a simmer and simmer for 3 hours.
- Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour longer.
- This was a requested recipe and in my comments I said that if you dont have all the ingredients for the herb mix dont worry about it.
- Shake in what you got.
- If you go out and buy everything required in the spices-you're looking at around 50 bucks!
