  1. We took a few liberties with the basic recipe and have had such great fun with this. We've used ground beef, but because my kids don't eat red-meat, we've also used ground turkey or chicken, both of which work well. The potatoes are a must, but for toppings, any "sturdy" vegie or meltable topping is fair game. My son likes green beans, corn, carrots, cheddar cheese, and a few mushrooms on his. My daughter piles mushrooms, corn, and anything green on hers. Sliced onions are a wonderful addition. Instead of the soup, we've used a can of stewed tomatoes with the juice. It is versatile, quick, and such a tidy dish. Everything in the packet is flavorful and moist. I pull the foil packets out of the oven, put them in big pasta bowls, and open up the packets to serve. Most importantly, because the kids assemble this on their own meals, they happily enjoy every bite. Thank you for this terrific recipe.

  3. My boyfriend made some of these one time, very similar recipe. He used corn instead of carrots, and didnt use any soup. He just used butter I believe, and cooked them on the grill (carefully, that butter can leak and cause a BIG fire!) I love to use Country Bob's All Purpose Steak Sauce for flavor. I do hope to try your recipe!
