  • 1 cup water
  • 2 -3 drops peppermint oil

directions

  • Mix together in a clean container. Shake before each use. Do not swallow. Store in a dark cupboard or medicine cabinet. (sunlight causes essential oils to lose their potency).I suggest using distilled or boiled water.

  1. I've read that alcohol-based mouthwashes can harm your teeth and gums, and that oil-based ones are much better at inhibiting bacteria growth and freshening your breath. I could never find any oil-based mouthwashes in stores though, so what luck that you posted this recipe. I had to order a six dollar bottle of peppermint oil from the Amazon.com, but in the long run this homemade mouthwash ends up costing less than the store-bought kind. It seems to work well too, and is refreshingly minty without burning. [Made & Reviewed for PRMR]
