Directions

  1. Mix together the flour, brown sugar and shortening.
  2. Set aside ½ cup of this mixture for the topping.
  3. Add to the remaining mixture the egg, molasses, boiling water and baking soda.
  4. Spread this mixture into the un-baked pie shell.
  5. Spread the ½ cup of crumb topping over the pie.
  6. Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes.
  7. Reduce temperature to 350°F and bake for 30 minutes or until firm.
