  1. I grew up with this. It was passed down by my Czech grandma. We put butter on top of the mashed potatoes so that they brown a little better.

  2. Great combination of flavours. The first time I made this totally according to the recipe. 2nd time I put sauerkraut on the botton, then hotdogs, and potatoes on top. I thought the sauerkraut cooked more thoroughly this way.

  3. This was a very yummy casserole. I put some velveeta cheese on top.

  4. I tried this but used debreciner sausages as DH really loves them. I also added the fried onion layer as suggested by Sylvie77. Turned out fantastic. Even the kids thought it was tasty. Thanks If you like sauerkrout this is a great dish to try.

  5. This is great autumn/winter comfort food. I also added a layer of fried onions because I love them with mash and sauerkraut. The only thing I might do different next time is not to drain the sauerkraut as much as the whole bake was a little on the dry side and in my opinion would have benefited from using some of the sauerkraut juice. My BF's sister who is a picky eater and had never had sauerkraut liked it as well!
