Hubby's Favorite Onion Rings

"These are my hubby's favorite onion rings (and mine too.) They are really simple, and very fast to make. The onion rings are puffy and crispy, and a beautiful golden color. Great with cheeseburgers or brats."

 1. We really liked these rings. I did thin the batter down a bit with some H2O but otherwise followed the directions. My family loved them. We didn't think they were too bready, but we like that anyway. I was worried about the batter sticking without flouring the onions first but it worked like a charm. Thank you for sharing this yummy ring recipe.

 2. I did not find the batter to be crunchy enough. It reminded me more of funnel cake consistency than onion ring.

 3. loved it! I thinned it out a bit with milk and replaced added cajun seasoning my family was blown away! I will use smaller onions next time this made a large batch. Thanks for sharing....

 4. They're great and taste good but I halved the recipe and used it for one onion. When I did that the batter was only enough for help of the onion. But since this the first time I tried it so next time we'll see.

 5. Liked the interest of the black pepper but this batter was really thick and coated the onion rings more than I wanted, making them more breaded. Just personal preference.

Tweaks

 1. I think that the base is good for onion rings, but it needs more to it. I added more milk (it was a little too bready for my taste) with this base along with more pepper and cajun seasonings-I also substituted the milk for beer and and added all the cajun seasonings for one batch and that was good as well.

 2. I've been craving onion rings all week and decided to try this recipe. They were good but not crispy like I had hoped. They were quite doughy actually. I also added cajun seasoning instead of the black pepper for a little kick. I refrigerated the batter and added an extra tablespoon of milk. The batter stuck to the onion rings quite nicely. I just didn't care too much for the texture.

 3. I found this recipe today.. had to try it with supper.. pepperoni rolls..anyway.. so yummy. I did mix the batter and put it in the frig. before I made the rings. My step son who refuses to eat onions...loved it. Next time I make them and there will be a next time I might try beer instead of milk. Just a thought.. Thank you so much for a great recipe Amanda Beth.

I live in TN with a husband, 9 year old, 6 year old, and our two dogs. I'm a busy mom who loves to cook for family and friends. We have two boys, and they are the light of my life! My husband is a restaurant manager. We actually met while working together at Bob Evans in another city. He was one cute grill cook!! Now he is one cute manager, and I am so proud of him! He currently works for El Chico, and he is very happy there.
I am a stay at home mom who sometimes does temp work, which is a big change from corporate America. We'll see how that goes. Now that I have some more time, I plan to get back to the kind of cooking I used to do. You know...with pots and pans instead of a take out menu. I love to crochet, garden and hike with the family. Thanks in advance for any reviews you do of my recipes. :)
