Hungarian Potato Soup

"This soup will keep you toasty on a cold wintry day. Don't forget the hot hard crusted homemade bread with lots of butter. When no one is looking you might even dunk a small piece into your soup. Yumm!F!"

  1. D-lish! This is a simple dish but soooo good. The texture is like velvet and the flavor is hearty and sublime. Added a bit less on the sourcream and was still wonderful. You could make a double batch so you have enough for the next day. Highly recommended.

  2. Sounds great, and that is how we make it, but we also cook it with a bayleaf, which gives a touch of extra taste. If we made it thick - for fözelek -we put a touch of marjoram in it also, served with some leftover meat, or fried sausage/hotdog, etc.

  3. I have tried many different potato soup recipes, and I must say now this is one of my favorites. I added a little more paprika because I love the flavor, otherwise I stuck to the recipe as written. This is a great comfort soup, and this recipe is going straight into my favorites file. Thank you, Glitter!

  4. Oh this brought back wonderful memories. I did add the paprika to the onions after I sauteed them to add more flavor to the potatoes. I thinly sliced the potatoes with the food processor, rather than dicing them cause thats the way my mama did it. Hid the soup in the back of the refrig and had it for 3 lunches. No, I did not share and I am not ashamed either.

  5. glitter this is SO tasty, and a breeze to make! I love the flavor paprika gives this recipe. I did add some ham pieces to it and a few chives for color. The family loved this and it will be featured often on our dinner table this fall and winter. I love how quickly this goes together too!

I am an avid cook and recipe collector. I've been cooking since I was 9 yrs. old. I am the first American from my family so I cook many different European dishes, everything from west to east. If I had a month just to do what I would like to do...I would like to cook that month with a famous chef. I also write a bulletin for a Service to Mankind organization. Since I collect recipes anywhere I can see them, I've been asked to share them with my readers. So this site is wonderful not just for me!
