- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
- 3 cups water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1⁄2 teaspoon basil
- 1⁄2 teaspoon oregano
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
directions
- Lightly brown beef, onion and garlic; drain fat.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Simmer, uncovered, one hour.
- Serve over hot spaghetti.

I made this for dinner this evening (actually, I made the sauce yesterday, but served it tonight). It was enjoyed by all who ate. I do think it was a little on the 'runny' side... but maybe I should have simmered it longer during the prep. (I thought by sitting in the fridge over-night that it would have thickened). I made as directed, and it was quite good. I like the flavor that the basil added, but it should have a bit more of something added (just not sure of what... maybe more garlic and oregano). Served over spaghetti along with garlic bread and salad. I will definately try this recipe again. Thank you for posting a nice "homemade meat sauce". (Made for PAC - Spring 2013)
