- Sift together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
- Beat the egg and add milk and onion.
- Stir liquids into corn mixture all at once and drop by tablespoons into deep fat -- 375°F.
- Fry a few minutes until golden brown.
- Drain on paper toweling and serve hot.
